Controversy has been sparked early doors at the IEM Global Finals. After a DDOS attack caused mTw and fnatic to be unable to move against their opponents - Frag eXecutors and Evil Geniuses respectively - for a single round the admins decided to take action.
However instead of insisting that the round be replayed they arrived at the decision that the match would be played from the offending round only if both teams agreed. This was especially pertinent in the fnatic Evil Geniuses game as the match would have been at 12 - 12 with the winner of the round being in pole position to take the match. It is doubly frustrating for fnatic as they lost a 3 v 1 situation due to their inability to move.
This has brought about some very heated exchanges between teams and admins, especially fnatic and Evil Geniuses. For all the arguing the result of 18 - 12 to the Americans is going to stand. mTw were also reported to be unhappy at the perceived lack of sportsmanship shown by their Polish opponents, but their game is still ongoing with mTw in the lead at the time of writing this.
Since as fnatic were one of the favourites for the competition and Evil Geniuses had been seen as not possessing enough quality to get out the groups this result represents a huge upset and a potentially major story in the making. However, it must be said that most would have preferred the victory to have come about in other circumstances.
