It was a game worthy of any final. The David versus Goliath clash had tension, excitement, great individual performances and swung back and forth like a pendulum. For the neutral the icing on the cake was Na 'Vi emerging victorious.
Not many fancied the Ukrainian side coming into this event, but how they proved the majority wrong with a string of incredible performances over the course of the tournament.
The first map, de_train, was incredibly close and the viewing fans were treated to one of the best Counter-Strike match-ups in a long time. The nerves - funnily enough from both teams - were there to see and the mistakes contributed to the air of tension. Yegor "markeloff" Markelov was even missing shots, uncharacteristic of him this event and the first map hung in the balance.
Both teams took the lead at points during the first map, edging ahead by a round or two only to be pegged back with some great play and when Na 'Vi finally got the break through to take it 16 - 13 you could see what it meant to them. They celebrated as if they had won the final itself.
After a delay they would have to face fnatic on de_inferno, a map they had already obliterated teams on this event, not least of all SK Gaming in the semi-finals. Starting as terrorist they quickly showed why they are the team of 2009 and their attacking play left Na 'Vi with a lot of tough decisions to make. In the end fnatic won the half 8 - 7 and were looking good going into the second half.
From there Na 'Vi took the pistol and it was back to the cut and thrust, barely anything to choose between the two teams. GeT_RiGhT came to life and really started to apply pressure to the Ukrainians and at 14 - 14 the game was hanging in the balance. Na 'Vi didn't let the pressure get to them and forced fnatic into a save / force buy situation to bring the match to overtime, but they couldn't deliver. 16 - 14 and Na 'Vi came from nowhere to steal the world title.
An incredible final befitting an incredible tournament. Na 'Vi's story is sure to capture the imagination of any Counter-Strike fan. Now many will ask is the fnatic era coming to an end, or will they come back stronger next time around. Time will tell, but for now Na 'Vi can bask in the glory they truly deserve.
