i39: Putting the newb into Newbury Day 3
@ i39 TF2 channel

Darn promised us a great show for the TF2 final, and what a show it was.

The game was a good one. Dignitas's early lead on Gullywash was too much for Power to overcome, even after Tuamos "vallone" Vespäläinen's fantastic backstab onto the uber-ready Arto "Agron" Gröndahl saw Power push hard from their CP1 to close the gap to 2-3 with about 5 minutes to play. But as we all expected - even the Power players included - Dignitas were too strong. Too good.

But the story of the night, for me, wasn't the game itself, but what happened after the game finished. The crowd of 150 or so was already buzzing, cheering every big play, golf-clapping even the most mundane of caps and groaning at each near-miss. Come the end of the map, and with Dignitas having won the tournament and celebrating, the crowd started getting really restless.

Someone shouted "ONE MORE MAP!" And then someone else shouted it. Everyone started chanting it. The admins had a full blown riot on their hands. Then the players joined in. Word was that it wasn't possible; there was no time left. But the crowd didn't care. ONE MORE MAP! ONE MORE MAP!

The admin staff ran over to Wizzo, he apparently gave a nod, and TF2 admin Tapley put both hands high in the air and gave the thumbs up. The crowd went wild. Even though the tournament was over, we had a 15 minute encore to enjoy.

Hell yes one more map.

The players relaxed, took their headphones off, were laughing and joking with each other (even stopping to toast one another after kills), and put on another great show. Rather fittingly, it ended a gentlemanly 3-3.

The casting, from the ETF2L Radio staff, was great. Community team What's in the Box? sent 4 full teams and owned at dodgeball. The admins were awesome. The crowd was immense. The coverage, if I say so myself, wasn't bad. The games were brilliant. It was again, like everything we do in TF2: a community effort.

Team Fortress 2. It's a team game.
